Israeli forces detain two men in Daraa countryside
QAMiSHLI, Syria (North Press) – Israeli forces detained two young men late Wednesday night in the western countryside of Daraa, southern Syria, according to a local source.
The source told North Press that an Israeli military unit raided the village of Maariya, near the Syrian-Israeli border, and arrested Mohammad Tawfiq Rabieh and Mazen Majid al-Aqla before withdrawing toward the border fence.
The raid was accompanied by heightened security measures in and around the village, the source added, noting that local residents have received no information regarding the detainees’ whereabouts or the reasons for their arrest.
This incident comes amid an increase in Israeli security activities along the border strip, particularly in the countryside of western Daraa. The area has witnessed several similar incursions and arrests in recent weeks.
Three young men from the nearby village of Jamlah remain detained by Israeli forces after being apprehended nearly 25 days ago. Their fate and the charges against them are still unknown, according to local accounts.
The western countryside of Daraa has seen frequent Israeli monitoring and limited cross-border actions over the past year, reflecting heightened tensions and ongoing security concerns along the disengagement line in the occupied Golan Heights.
