IED blast in Deir ez-Zor injures child, security officer   

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A child and a member of the security forces of the Syrian transitional government were injured late on Saturday when an improvised explosive device (IED) targeted a security vehicle in the town of Abu Kamal, east of Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria.

A security source told North Press that the explosion occurred on al-Hajjana Street, injuring a security officer and a nearby child. Security forces immediately cordoned off the area following the blast.

“One of our members was targeted with a roadside bomb, sustaining a serious injury,” said Darrar al-Shamlan, commander of the security forces in Deir ez-Zor. “A child nearby also suffered nervous shock from the intensity of the explosion.”

Al-Shamlan vowed that the perpetrators would be brought to justice, adding that specialized units were pursuing those responsible and had launched an investigation into the attack.
