Syrian Interior Ministry arrests former regime militant in Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced on Sunday the arrest of a former regime militant, known as “Jobar Sniper,” identified as Alaa Ghossab al-Soudi. The ministry stated that the arrest was carried out by the leadership of the Internal Security Directorate in Daraa, citing the suspect’s involvement in serious crimes against civilians during his service under the Syrian regime.
According to an official statement issued via the ministry’s verified accounts, al-Soudi is accused of participating in multiple armed operations, most notably the clashes in the Jobar neighborhood of Damascus. The statement added that he also took part in operations in Daraa, including heavy fighting in the city of Tafas, which resulted in injuries leading to the amputation of his hand.
The Interior Ministry statement further said that al-Soudi was involved in acts of desecration of victims’ bodies and reportedly boasted of his crimes, sharing photographic evidence of himself armed with various weapons.
The arrest marks a continuation of Syrian authorities’ efforts to address alleged past violations in areas affected by the Syrian conflict. Daraa province has seen a complex history of clashes involving multiple armed factions since 2011, with governance now under the Syrian government’s control following reconciliation agreements in recent years.
The Interior Ministry confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that further legal measures will be taken in accordance with Syrian law. The arrested individual is currently held in custody in Daraa pending further investigation.
