Armed clash in Syria’s Hama leaves one dead, one injured
HAMA, Syria (North Press) – One person was killed and another injured on Wednesday following an armed clash in Nahr al-Barid village in Hama countryside, amid escalating tensions linked to a recent kidnapping incident.
According to a North Press correspondent in the area, an armed group claiming affiliation with the “Syrian security” attacked another armed faction that had claimed responsibility for abducting a Syrian security member a week earlier.
The correspondent reported that the incident involved gunfire targeting civilians and their homes, resulting in the death of Ibrahim al-Rukni and injuries to Hasan Huwayji. In addition, motorcycles were reportedly stolen during the attack.
The initial kidnapping involved a man known as Abu Hamza, a member of the Syrian security forces stationed at a checkpoint. He was abducted a week ago by a group calling itself “al-Komit,” which later released a filmed statement claiming responsibility. The group stated that the abduction was in retaliation for the alleged assault of a young woman from Nahr al-Barid.
The attack and the abduction have caused heightened tension in the village, with residents expressing fear and anger. North Press correspondents in the area confirmed that the situation remains tense, with heightened security concerns among the population.
