QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani met on Saturday in Damascus with United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen to discuss advancing a political transition in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
Talks focused on the framework of a political settlement and the role of Syrian state institutions, as well as regional and international dimensions impacting the process.
According to information obtained by North Press, the meeting also addressed the situation in Suwayda, northeast Syria, and the coastal region, underscoring the diverse challenges facing the country.
Pedersen reaffirmed the United Nations’ support “for the government and people of Syria in their pursuit of peace and internal stability through a comprehensive, transparent, and credible political transition in line with the core principles of Resolution 2254.”
