Hasakah, Syria (North Press) – The co-chair of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), Mahmoud al-Meslet, stated on Thursday that Syrian tribes will not be used to fuel internal, regional, or international conflicts.

Al-Meslet conveyed the message in a statement to Syrians and tribal communities, saying: “Syria is facing a dangerous and delicate period, with both internal and external forces seeking to divide our country socially and geographically to serve their own interests rather than ours.”

He emphasized that Syria’s cohesive social fabric is a national strength, noting that the country’s long-standing civilization demonstrates a tradition of coexistence and mutual respect among its diverse communities.

Al-Meslet highlighted the historical role of Arab tribes as a stabilizing force, protecting the land and maintaining security, and stressed the need for their continued contribution to preserving national unity and safety.

He called Syria’s unity a red line for all Syrians and reaffirmed that tribes will not be drawn into conflicts, whether domestic, regional, or international. He added that dialogue is the path to resolution, and urged all parties to allow negotiations with the government to take their course, avoiding escalatory rhetoric, threats, or war, which would be detrimental to everyone.

Concluding his message, al-Meslet said: “We recognize that international powers are the primary actors in the Syrian scene. Therefore, we reject being used as fuel in others’ battles. Let us build our country with our own hands and strengthen our role in the new Syria we want for all Syrians without exception.”
