SDC official criticizes upcoming Syrian elections as one-Sided
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – Hassan Mohammed Ali, Co-Chair of the Public Relations Office at the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), stated on Thursday that the upcoming Syrian parliamentary elections will have no meaningful impact on society, as they are not being conducted in a legitimate or inclusive manner.
“We have a clear stance on these elections,” Mohammed Ali said. “They are being organized by a single party, much like under the former Syrian regime.”
He added that “the method being used in Damascus to conduct elections does not reflect the will of all political forces. This stems from the flawed National Dialogue Conference held in Damascus, a conference we criticized.”
Ali emphasized that Syrian political forces in general—and those in the north and east in particular—are being systematically excluded from the electoral process. “Other Syrian forces, especially in North and East Syria, were marginalized. True representatives of the region’s communities were absent.”
He went on to say that there is an authoritarian transitional government in Damascus that appoints members and selects them either by the president or by an unelected committee, and this “may not be accepted by the Syrian people.”
The SDC official posed a direct question: “So how can this committee gain legitimacy? Where is the will of Syria’s diverse communities? Where is the representation of women on this committee?”
