Kurdish delegation awaits Damascus response to begin negotiations
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Faisal Yousef, a member of the Kurdish delegation tasked with negotiating with Damascus, told North Press on Wednesday that the delegation’s delay in traveling to Damascus to discuss the outcomes of the Kurdish Unity Conference is due to the Syrian transitional government.
Yousef stated, “We are fully prepared to go to Damascus. They have been informed of our readiness multiple times—the decision now rests with them.”
On June 4, a joint Kurdish delegation was formed to engage in dialogue with the Syrian transitional government, as well as with international and Kurdish stakeholders.
The delegation held a meeting on Tuesday in the city of Qamishli in northeastern Syria to coordinate internal procedures and assign roles among its members.
Yousef said the meeting included a review of the joint Kurdish political vision, with an in-depth discussion of its articles in preparation for the upcoming negotiation phase.
The Kurdish Unity Conference took place on April 26 in Qamishli under American and French sponsorship. It was attended by Kurdish parties and figures from Syria, the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, and Turkey.
The conference concluded with a political vision outlining national demands tied to the broader Syrian crisis, as well as specific rights and demands of the Kurdish people.
