Jordanian army foils border infiltration from Syria, kills 2 militants
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Jordanian army announced on Saturday night that two militants were killed while attempting to infiltrate the border from Syria.
In a statement, the army said that border guard forces in the Eastern Military Region successfully thwarted an attempt by a group of armed individuals to illegally cross into Jordan at dawn on Friday.
The statement added that rules of engagement were applied after the group was detected, resulting in an exchange of fire that left two of the infiltrators dead, while the rest retreated back into Syrian territory.
In June, the Jordanian army also reported foiling an operation to smuggle a large quantity of drugs from Syria.
In January, Jordan and Syria agreed to establish a joint security committee aimed at securing their shared border and combating the smuggling of weapons and narcotics.
