Syria’s interior ministry denies security role in Omar khairi assault
Damascus, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, the Syrian Ministry of Interior denied any involvement of General Security members in the assault on Syrian folk singer Omar Khairi in the northern countryside of Aleppo.
Earlier in the day, videos circulated online showing a group of individuals assaulting singer Omar Khairi by painting on his face, shaving his head, and verbally humiliating him.
According to activists on social media, Khairi was performing at a wedding when a group of young men stopped the event, detained him, and proceeded to beat him.
Ministry spokesperson Nour al-Din al-Baba stated, “We completely deny the rumors circulating on social media that the folk singer was assaulted by members of the General Security in the city of al-Bab, in the Aleppo countryside. No security agency is connected to this incident.”
He added, “We are facing a wave of systematic disinformation aimed at tarnishing the image of the General Security. We carry out our duties with transparency. If a mistake is made, we acknowledge and hold the responsible accountable, but we will not remain silent in the face of lies and fabricated accusations.”
