AANES official says Paris talks between Syrian government, SDF expected soon
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – An official of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) told North Press on Tuesday that a meeting will “soon” be held between the delegations of both the AANES and the Syrian transitional government in Paris under international auspices.
Yasser al-Suleiman, spokesperson for the delegation of the AANES in negotiations with the Syrian transitional government, explained that the postponement of the Paris meeting was requested by the Syrian transitional government due to the ongoing situation in Suwayda.
On July 25, Syria, France, and the United States issued a joint statement agreeing to hold a round of consultations between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Paris as soon as possible, aiming to fully implement the March 10 agreement.
He added that the Paris meeting will be held under the sponsorship of France and the United States, and possibly Britain, to discuss activating the March 10 agreement and defining the framework for the integration process.
According to al-Suleiman, residents in northeastern Syria want the SDF to remain in the region, while also seeking international guarantees.
He also noted to contradictions in the way the integration of the SDF within Syria’s Ministry of Defense is being portrayed in the media, emphasizing that the ongoing discussions focus on the mechanism of integration, not surrender, as some have claimed.
