45 families leave AANES-run al-Arisha camp for Deir ez-Zor
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – 45 families left on Thursday al-Arisha camp for displaced persons in the southern countryside of Hasakah, returning to their original homes in Deir ez-Zor and its countryside in eastern Syria.
The process came as part of a voluntary repatriation effort coordinated by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and camp administration affiliated with the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).
Salwa Juju, co-chair of the al-Arisha camp administration, told North Press that the departing group included 231 individuals from Deir ez-Zor and surrounding areas, divided among the 45 families.
She noted that the operation was carried out under direct supervision by UNHCR.
“This is the 13th return facilitated through UNHCR, and the 15th overall since the launch of the voluntary return program at al-Arisha camp,” she added.
The previous group left the camp on July 13, consisting of 58 families totaling 283 individuals. With Thursday’s departure, the number of returnees to Deir ez-Zor from al-Arisha this month alone has reached nearly 800 people.
