Rubio, Safadi discuss ceasefire in Syria’s Suwayda
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi held on Thursday talks regarding the ceasefire in southern Syria and the broader security situation in the region.
According to a statement issued by the U.S. Department of State, the two officials discussed the tripartite agreement between the United States, Jordan, and Syria aimed at maintaining the ceasefire in southern Syria.
The statement noted that Rubio stressed the importance of open dialogue to address the ongoing crisis in southern Syria and underscored the need to ensure the protection of civilians by all parties involved.
Writing on his X account, Rubio said: “Met with Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister @AymanHsafadi to discuss the ceasefire in Syria.”
He added, “I also thanked Jordan for its leadership in advancing regional security and stability, including in the West Bank and Gaza.”
For his part, Safadi wrote on X that he had a comprehensive discussion with Rubio about achieving a lasting ceasefire in Gaza, ending escalation in the West Bank, and preserving the ceasefire in Suwayda Governorate, southern Syria.
