Syrian transitional government requests military support from Turkey
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Turkish Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday that the Syrian transitional government has formally requested assistance from Ankara to bolster its defense capabilities.
The Turkish Ministry of Defense said that in response to a request from the Syrian government, they continue to provide training, advisory services, and technical support to strengthen Syria’s defense capabilities.
Footage circulating on social media showed Turkish military vehicles crossing into Syrian territory.
Meanwhile, a delegation from Syria’s Ministry of Defense is attending the “IDEF 2025” Defense Industry Fair in Turkey, which hosts representatives from 120 countries and features over 400 defense companies from 44 nations.
On the sidelines of the event, Asim Hawari, Commander of the Syrian Air Force, met with Turkish Chief of Staff Metin Gürak.
Speaking at a weekly press conference at the Istanbul Exhibition Center, Turkish Defense Ministry spokesperson Zeki Aktürk said that recent escalations by Israel have heightened tensions between the Druze community and the Damascus administration, especially in the southern region of Suwayda.
Aktürk added that following Damascus’ formal request for support, they are continuing to provide military training, consultations, and technical assistance.
