400 civilians leave Syria’s Suwayda amid fragile ceasefire
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Approximately 400 civilians, mostly from Bedouin tribes, left on Tuesday Suwayda and its surrounding countryside in southern Syria, as cautious calm prevailed in the region.
This marks the second group of stranded families who leave Suwayda to Daraa under an agreement between the Syrian transitional government and Druze armed groups after a week of rising tensions and violent clashes.
North Press correspondent in Daraa reported that approximately 25 temporary shelters have been established across Daraa, although many of them have since traveled onward to Damascus to reunite with relatives.
Suwayda has been gripped by escalating violence since last week, as clashes erupted between Druze armed groups and Bedouin tribal militants.
