over 1,100 killed in Syria’s Suwayda clashes – SOHR
SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) revealed on Sunday evening a shocking death toll from the recent wave of violence in Suwayda, southern Syria.
According to the SOHR, the number of confirmed deaths—documented by name—has reached 1,120 across all parties, a figure it described as “a shocking toll that exposes the scale of the humanitarian disaster.”
Among the dead, 194 individuals were reportedly executed in the field or summarily killed on sectarian grounds.
The SOHR provided the following breakdown: 531 from Suwayda, including 104 civilians, 373 members of the Ministry of Defense and General Security, including 18 Bedouin fighters and one Lebanese national, 15 personnel from the Ministries of Defense and Interior killed in Israeli airstrikes, three individuals, including two unidentified, killed by Israeli shelling, one journalist, 194 executed in the field by forces affiliated with the Ministries of Defense and Interior, and three Bedouin tribesmen executed by Druze militants.
The SOHR’s findings point to alarming levels of violence, sectarian reprisals, and extrajudicial killings, highlighting the urgent need for accountability and de-escalation.
Since July 13, heavy clashes have erupted between local factions in Suwayda and Bedouin tribal groups in the surrounding countryside. What began as intercommunal fighting quickly escalated with the involvement of Syrian government forces, followed by Israeli airstrikes.
Armed groups identifying themselves as “Tribal Fighters” later entered the conflict, clashing with local Druze militias.
