Landmine blast in Syria’s Homs kills 2 civilians
Homs, Syria (North Press) – A landmine, of war remnants, exploded on Thursday in Homs Governorate, central Syria, killing two civilians
Two civilians were killed on Thursday in a landmine explosion caused by remnants of war near the village of al-Mukhtariyah, north of Homs, central Syria.
A civil defense official working in the area told North Press that the victims, identified as Musab al-Antouzi and Shahin al-Antouzi, were killed while plowing farmland close to the village of al-Mukhtariya, north of Homs.
The landmine detonated during their work, killing both men instantly due to severe injuries sustained across their bodies.
The official noted that the area has witnessed dozens of similar incidents, amid an alarming absence of specialized mine clearance teams and limited public awareness on how to identify or avoid such deadly remnants.
Community safety activists continue to warn that unexploded ordnance and landmines scattered across agricultural lands and village roads in Homs northern countryside remain a daily threat—particularly to farmers and children.
The situation is exacerbated by the lack of any comprehensive national or international plan to address the widespread presence of war remnants.
