DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on Wednesday that the United States is “very concerned” about the ongoing Israeli airstrikes in Syria.
“We want the fighting to stop,” Rubio said, adding that the U.S. is in touch with all relevant parties in order to bring the conflict to an end. “Hopefully we’ll have some updates later today.”
On Tuesday, the news outlet Axios reported, citing a U.S. official, that the Trump administration had requested Israel halt its strikes on Syrian army positions in southern Syria.
“We told the Israelis to stop and take a breath,” the senior U.S. official told Axios.
The remarks come after Israeli warplanes carried out airstrikes near the Presidential Palace and the Ministry of Defense in the Syrian capital, Damascus, earlier in the day.
The attack reportedly killed one person and injured at least 18 others.
