58 families leave al-Arisha camp in Hasakah to Deir ez-Zor
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – 58 displaced families departed on Sunday from al-Arisha camp, located south of Hasakah in northeastern Syria, to return to their original homes in Deir ez-Zor and its countryside.
The relocation is part of a voluntary return program overseen by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), in coordination with the camp administration.
Salwa Juju, co-chair of the al-Arisha camp administration, told North Press that the latest group included 283 individuals originally from Deir ez-Zor and surrounding areas.
She noted that the operation was conducted under the direct supervision of the UNHCR.
“This marks the 12th group to leave the camp as part of the voluntary return program,” Juju said, adding that the most recent prior departure took place on July 4 and included 48 families returning to Deir ez-Zor. In total, 13 return groups were organized to date.
Al-Arisha camp—also known as al-Sadd Camp—hosts hundreds of displaced families from across Syria. The voluntary return program, implemented on a rolling basis, enables families wishing to go back to their areas of origin—particularly in Deir ez-Zor—to do so safely and in coordination with humanitarian agencies.
The program aligns with a directive from the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), which calls for the voluntary return of all Syrian IDPs currently residing in camps across the region.
