DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Civil Defense announced on Saturday that it had successfully extinguished a forest fire that broke out between the Dummar project and the Presidential Palace in Damascus.
According to local media, the blaze erupted on Friday in the vicinity of the presidential complex, raising concerns due to its proximity to critical locations.
In a statement, the Civil Defense said the fire was triggered by the burning of an outdoor restaurant located within a nearby garden. The flames quickly spread to the surrounding forested areas due to dry conditions and strong winds.
The statement confirmed that firefighting teams had fully contained the fire, adding that cooling and monitoring operations are ongoing to prevent potential flare-ups amid high wind speeds.
Meanwhile, firefighting efforts continue in the Qastal Ma’af region in the Latakia countryside, where teams are battling large wildfires in coordination with the security forces.
Anas Khattab, Minister of Interior in the Syrian transitional government, stated on “X” that the security forces and Civil Defense teams have been working to extinguish the fires that have spread across vast areas in Qastal Ma’af.
He added that efforts are ongoing to prevent the flames from reaching residential zones.
