Unknown gunmen kill former pro-Assad militiaman in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unknown gunmen killed on Sunday an ex-member of the National Defense Forces (NDF), formerly affiliated with the Assad regime, in his home in a town east of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
A local source told North Press that the gunmen broke into the house of Khairi al-Saleh in the Tuwayjan neighborhood at the entrance of the town of Sabikhan in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
According to the source, the assailants shot al-Saleh with a handgun before fleeing the area.
Al-Saleh had previously served with the pro-government NDF and later participated in a local reconciliation process following the collapse of state control in the area.
