Asayish arrest drug trafficking network in Kobani
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) announced on Wednesday the arrest of a network involved in drug use and trafficking in the city of Kobani, northern Syria.
According to a statement published on the Asayish’s official website, anti-narcotics units carried out a “highly coordinated security operation,” which led to the dismantling of a network engaged in the use and distribution of narcotics in the city.
The operation also resulted in the seizure of weapons and other dangerous equipment found in the suspects’ possession.
The statement noted that the operation was launched following confirmed intelligence about an individual suspected of drug trafficking. Authorities monitored the suspect closely, gathering detailed information before apprehending him in the act of using drugs, in coordination with the Public Prosecution.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to using and distributing narcotics and revealed the names of accomplices involved in the operation, the statement added. Several suspects were subsequently arrested in separate raids across different locations.
The Asayish concluded by stating that investigations are ongoing to uncover the full scope of the network and to determine the sources of the confiscated weapons.
