U.S. says easing Syria sanctions aims to undermine ISIS

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – U.S. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said on Tuesday that Washington is working to ease sanctions on Syria and encourage investment as part of efforts to solidify the defeat of the Islamic State (ISIS).

During a press briefing Bruce noted that the United States is coordinating with regional and international partners to open investment in Syria.

She stated that lifting sanctions would support the overarching goal of ensuring ISIS’s lasting defeat by offering the Syrian people a chance at a more stable and prosperous future.

“The cessation of sanctions against Syria will advance our primary objective: the enduring defeat of ISIS by giving the people of Syria a chance for a better future.”

Bruce reaffirmed that the United States remains committed to its mission of defeating ISIS and eliminating terrorist threats to American citizens.
