Diplomatic push on Palestine-Israel conflict may aid Syria – Analyst

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – A political analyst told North Press on Tuesday that diplomatic efforts concerning the Palestinian-Israeli conflict could yield positive outcomes across multiple regional issues, particularly the Syrian file.

Hani Suleiman, political analyst and director of the Arab Center for Research and Studies, said the renewed diplomatic momentum could positively impact not only the Palestinian issue but also Syria.

On May 23, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot hosted his counterparts from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Jordan in a working session to prepare for the international conference on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, scheduled for June.

He noted that France, as a key European actor, plays an important role, and its initiative to host this meeting is expected to enhance the prospects for a successful conference.

Suleiman explained that Israeli violations extend beyond Palestine, affecting Syria through repeated breaches of sovereignty and control over strategically significant areas.

He emphasized that addressing the Palestinian issue also serves to curb Israeli aggression more broadly, isolating it diplomatically and pressuring it to reassess its actions in Gaza, Syria, and Lebanon.

This is a unified file tied to Israel’s broader policy and behavior, he said, and it requires holding Israel accountable to its borders, in line with international law and norms.

Suleiman added that the outcomes of the upcoming G8 summit will be critical. The international community, Arab states, and other stakeholders have a vital role in shaping and promoting the summit’s resolutions, particularly in advancing the two-state solution, he concluded.
