Syria welcomes easing of U.S. sanctions as a step toward recovery
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed on Saturday the U.S. Treasury Department’s decision to ease sanctions imposed on Syria.
In an official statement, the ministry described the move as “a positive step in the right direction to alleviate the country’s humanitarian and economic suffering.”
On Friday evening, the U.S. Department of the Treasury issued a general license authorizing a significant easing of sanctions on several Syrian figures and entities, including Syrian Transitional President Ahmad al-Sharaa, Interior Minister Anas Khattab, and a number of government institutions and companies.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry stated that Syria extends its hand to all those who wish to cooperate on the basis of mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs.
Dialogue and diplomacy are the best means of building balanced relationships that serve the interests of all nations and enhance regional stability and security, the statement added.
The ministry pointed out that Syria is entering a new phase focused on rebuilding what was destroyed by the previous regime and restoring Syria’s rightful place in the region and the international community.
