Landmine blasts kill 2 people in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Separate landmine explosions killed on Wednesday two people and another injured in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A local source told North Press that Ahmad al-Salbi was killed when a landmine detonated while he was grazing sheep on the outskirts of the desert near the village of al-Heri in eastern Deir ez-Zor.

The source added that a second explosion occurred in the town of Sayyal, where a group of young men were playing football. The blast killed Abdul Majeed al-Ahmad and left another young man injured.

Despite ongoing and intensive volunteer-led demining campaigns across Deir ez-Zor, landmines continue to pose a deadly threat to residents on a daily basis, the source said.
