DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Syria’s General Security Directorate announced on Monday the arrest of three prominent former military pilots in the Damascus countryside for alleged involvement in “crimes against Syrians” under the previous regime.
According to Syria’s state-run Al-Ikhbariya TV, the Ministry of Interior confirmed that security forces detained Major General Fayez Hussein Ibrahim, Brigadier General Khaled Mohammad Al-Ali, and Brigadier General Abduljabbar Mohammad Halabiya in rural Damascus.
Media outlets reported that Ibrahim, the former commander of al-Dumayr Military Airport, was arrested alongside three other pilots in the Adra al-‘Umaliyya area. Among them was the former commander of al-Kiswah and al-Khalakhleh military airports.
The arrests mark a rare move by the current transitional authorities to hold figures from the former regime accountable.
