France condemns violence against Druze in Syria

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned on Thursday what it described as sectarian violence against the Druze in southern Damascus, while also urging Israel to refrain from taking unilateral actions that could inflame tensions.

In a statement, the ministry called on all Syrian and regional actors to immediately halt the ongoing clashes and emphasized the importance of protecting all communities in Syria.

The condemnation follows violent incidents in the Damascus suburbs of Jaramana and Ashrafiyat Sahnaya. On Wednesday, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs dismissed calls by what it termed “outlaw groups” for international protection, calling them illegal and completely rejected. The ministry claimed these groups were “acting outside the framework of Syrian law.”

France urged Syrian authorities to take all necessary measures to restore calm and uphold civil peace among the country’s diverse communities.

It stressed that Damascus must adhere to its repeated commitments to social cohesion—most recently reaffirmed in the joint Paris Declaration issued on February 13, 2025.

The French statement also warned against any unilateral Israeli actions that could further destabilize the situation or heighten communal tensions in Syria.
