Two landmine blasts kill child, injure girl in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Two separate landmine explosions killed on Monday a child and injured a girl in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A local source told North Press that Omar al-Muhammad, 9, died after a landmine—believed to have been left behind by Iranian-backed militias—exploded while he was playing near an abandoned military site in the town of al-Tabni, west of Deir ez-Zor.

In a separate incident in the same town, Suad al-Ibrahim, 11, sustained multiple shrapnel injuries after another landmine detonated near a flock of sheep she was close to.

Al-Tabni has witnessed five landmine explosions since April 26, resulting in several casualties and injuries, the majority of whom are children.
