Asayish dismantle drug trafficking group in Aleppo Kurdish neighborhood

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Internal Security Forces (Asayish) announced on Wednesday the dismantling of a narcotics trafficking group operating in the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood of Aleppo, northwestern Syria.

The Asayish are responsible for maintaining security in Kurdish neighborhoods of Aleppo under a recent agreement between the neighborhoods’ Civil Council and the Syrian transitional government.

In a statement, the Asayish said their forces in Aleppo successfully uncovered and dismantled a group involved in the promotion and distribution of narcotics in Sheikh Maqsoud. During the operation, authorities seized approximately 10.3 kilograms of hashish paste.

The statement noted that the operation followed intelligence received about the suspicious activity of a group in the area. The Anti-Narcotics Unit launched a surveillance operation, closely monitoring the suspects before carrying out a successful raid that led to the arrest of all group members.

According to the investigation department, the suspects confessed to smuggling narcotics from other neighborhoods in Aleppo into Sheikh Maqsoud. They reportedly used sophisticated concealment techniques, including hiding drugs inside car upholstery and folds of clothing, to evade detection.
