Attack in Syria’s Daraa claims lives of 2 General Security officers

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Two members of the General Security Directorate of the transitional government in Daraa Governorate, southern Syria, were killed on Tuesday in a targeted armed attack by unidentified assailants.

North Press correspondent said that the victims—identified as Ali Hassan Ajaj and his brother Moawiya Hassan Ajaj—were shot by unknown gunmen in the town of al-Muzayrib, west of Daraa.

Both sustained critical injuries and were rushed to the National Hospital in Daraa city but succumbed to their wounds before arriving.

The Ajaj brothers had joined the General Security Directorate following the collapse of the Assad regime and were previously affiliated with the Central Committee in western Daraa, a local body involved in mediating between former opposition militants and the Syrian government.

In a separate incident, a senior security official, Muhammad al-Sukhni—known by the alias Abu Moawiya—survived an assassination attempt when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonated near his vehicle.

The attack occurred on the main road linking the cities of Daraa and Khirbet Ghazaleh in the eastern countryside. The blast damaged the vehicle but no casualties were reported.
