Syrian government, SDF take steps toward institutional coordination
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Head of the Syrian transitional government committee tasked with finalizing the agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Hussein al-Salama, announced on Sunday that a “positive meeting” had taken place with General Mazloum Abdi, SDF’s Commander-in-Chief.
The meeting was held in the city of Hasakah on April 12, where the committee met with Abdi and discussed ongoing coordination. Following the meeting, the SDF announced the formation of a five-member committee along with two official spokespersons to oversee the implementation of the agreement.
Al-Salama stated that the atmosphere during the meeting was constructive, with both parties reaffirming their full commitment to the terms of the previously signed agreement.
He also emphasized the importance of preserving Syria’s unity and territorial integrity.
According to al-Salama, the second phase of the agreement was successfully implemented in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods in Aleppo, where the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) entered the areas, reopened roads, and dismantled earth barriers.
He further noted that Syria’s Ministry of Defense conducted an initial field inspection of the Tishrin Dam area in coordination with the SDF.
This visit is part of a broader plan to consolidate the ceasefire in the region and create favorable conditions for the return of official state institutions.
Al-Salama also revealed that a new session between the Syrian government committee and the central committee formed by the SDF is expected to take place in the coming days.
