U.S. warns citizens against traveling to Syria amid security risks
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The U.S. Department of State issued on Friday a travel advisory warning American citizens against traveling to Syria.
The Department cautioned against traveling to Syria due to the high risks of “terrorism, civil unrest, kidnapping, hostage-taking, armed conflict, and unjust detention.”
The advisory also highlighted that attacks in Damascus could target embassies, international organizations, and public institutions, with potential threats including armed gunmen, individual attackers, or explosive devices.
The statement urged Americans in need of emergency assistance to contact the U.S. Interests Section at the Czech Embassy in Damascus.
It also advised U.S. citizens to stay vigilant, monitor news updates, incorporate security developments into travel plans, prepare for emergency situations, and review the official travel checklist.
