German, Austrian ministers cancel Damascus visit over terror threat

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser and her Austrian counterpart, Gerhard Karner, canceled on Thursday a previously unannounced visit to Damascus due to a potential terrorist threat, according to German security authorities.

The purpose of the visit was to discuss the issue returning Syrian refugees in case of stabilization and peaceful development in Syria, according to ministry.

Germany’s Interior Ministry said that the two ministers cancelled their trip “because of concrete warnings by German security authorities of a terrorist threat.”

The ministers were scheduled to fly from Jordan to Damascus aboard a German Air Force aircraft in the morning.
