AMMAN, Jordan (North Press) – The Jordanian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday strongly condemned Israel’s recent military incursion and airstrike on the town of Kouya in Syria’s southern Daraa province, which resulted in the deaths of five people, including a woman, and left several others injured.

In an official statement, the Jordanian government denounced the attack as a flagrant violation of international law and Syria’s sovereignty, warning that such actions would only fuel further instability in the region.

Earlier on Tuesday, Israeli forces reportedly entered Syrian territory and launched an airstrike on Kouya, a rural town in western Daraa province near the border with Jordan. The strike, which targeted unspecified locations, left civilian casualties and heightened tensions in the already volatile region.

The Jordanian Foreign Ministry described the assault as an “egregious violation” of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement between Syria and Israel. The agreement, overseen by the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF), was established to maintain peace along the separation lines in the Golan Heights.

Amman has repeatedly voiced concerns over Israel’s military actions in Syria, particularly in areas close to its border. In its latest statement, the Foreign Ministry reaffirmed Jordan’s support for Syria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, warning that continued Israeli military operations could lead to a dangerous escalation in the region.

“The repeated Israeli assaults on Syrian soil are a clear breach of international agreements and contribute to ongoing tensions,” the statement read. Jordan also reiterated its commitment to regional stability and its solidarity with Syria’s security and sovereignty.

The recent Israeli actions in southern Syria have raised concerns among neighboring countries, particularly Jordan, which shares a 375-kilometer border with Syria and has faced security challenges stemming from the conflict, including militant activities and cross-border smuggling operations.

As the situation develops, regional powers and international actors will be closely watching the next steps taken by both Israel and Syria, particularly amid ongoing geopolitical tensions and shifting alliances in the Middle East.
