ISIS militants attack government employee’s home in Syria’s Palmyra
PALMYRA, Syria (North Press) – Islamic State (ISIS) militants launched on Wednesday an attack on the home of a Syrian government employee in the city of Palmyra in the Syrian desert killing his 16-year-old son before fleeing the scene.
A security source told North Press, four ISIS militants stormed the house of Zahdia al-Mareer, an employee in Syria’s transportation sector, in the city center of Palmyra.
Al-Mareer managed to escape the house and engaged in a brief firefight with the attackers, injuring one of them.
In retaliation, the militants executed his son, Omar al-Mareer, before withdrawing.
The source revealed that al-Mareer was a former ISIS member who had served a three-year prison sentence.
He had reportedly been targeted by the group due to his cooperation with authorities, including providing intelligence and aiding in the capture of ISIS operatives.
The incident highlights the persistent threat posed by ISIS sleeper cells in central Syria, despite ongoing counterterrorism efforts.
