AANES’ Child Protection calls to investigate Turkish airstrike on civilians

KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – The Child Protection Office of the Autonomous Administration of North and east Syria (AANES) demanded on Monday an independent international investigation and accountability for those responsible for the killing of nine civilians from the same family in a Turkish airstrike on the Kobani countryside, northern Syria.

“Targeting innocent children is a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which guarantees their right to life and security,” the Child Protection Office said.

The attack, carried out by a Turkish drone in the early hours of Monday, targeted the village of Qomji, south of Kobani, killing nine family members—including women and children—and seriously injuring a girl and a young woman.

The statement also criticized the global silence on the attack, noting the lack of condemnation or action to hold perpetrators accountable and prevent future violations.

The Office urged international organizations to take immediate steps to protect civilian children and called for “official condemnation of this massacre, as well as an end to the targeting of civilians, particularly children, in conflict zones.”

Additionally, the statement called on the international community to impose measures preventing further violations against the Kurdish people and other marginalized communities.

It emphasized the need for urgent support for survivors and protection for children in the region, warning that continued international inaction “grants a green light for more killing and destruction.”
