General Security arrest 4 leaders linked to Assad regime in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The General Security forces in the city of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, announced on Sunday the arrest of four leaders from groups affiliated with the Assad regime.

Speaking to SANA, Diaa al-Omar, director of the General Security forces in Deir ez-Zor, stated, “As part of our ongoing efforts to maintain security and stability, and after thorough investigation and tracking, we successfully apprehended four leaders of groups linked to the remnants of the former regime in a highly precise security operation.”

The arrests come amid ongoing turmoil in Syria’s coastal region, where militant attacks—allegedly carried out by remnants of the former regime—have resulted in hundreds of deaths, mostly civilians, and raised concerns over sectarian-driven violence.

In a televised address on Sunday evening, Ahmed al-Sharaa, Syria’s Transitional President, declared the formation of an investigative committee to uncover the facts and hold those responsible accountable.

Al-Omar further explained that the arrested individuals were involved in planning attacks on security and government facilities with the intent to destabilize the region, allegedly coordinating with ex-regime leaders in Syria’s coastal areas.
