Jordanian army thwarts smuggling attempt, kills 4 armed infiltrators

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Jordanian army announced on Thursday that it had intercepted an attempted drug smuggling operation from Syria, resulting in the killing of four smugglers and the seizure of a large quantity of narcotics.

According to an official statement, Jordanian border guards engaged in a firefight with armed smuggling groups attempting to cross into Jordan from the northern border during the early hours of Thursday.

“As a result of the clashes, four smugglers were killed, while the rest retreated into Syrian territory,” the statement read.

The army noted that the armed group exploited adverse weather conditions, including instability and heavy fog, to attempt the illegal crossing in the Eastern Military Zone.  However, Jordanian forces successfully intercepted the operation and confiscated significant amounts of drugs.
