Syria’s Druze Leader Rejects Separation, Emphasizes National Unity

SWEIDA, Syria (North Press) – Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri, the leader of Syria’s Druze community, stated on Tuesday that the Druze will never seek separation, regardless of political shifts, affirming their commitment to Syria’s unity.
Hijri made these remarks while receiving a delegation from Jaramana, a Damascus suburb that recently witnessed tensions between security forces and local groups.
His statement comes in response to comments by Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz, who warned of potential military intervention if Syrian security forces harmed the Druze community.
“The Druze community’s cause is a Syrian national one,” Hijri asserted, rejecting any separatist agenda. He emphasized that the integrity of Syria’s land and people remains the top priority.
“We seek peace and dignity while maintaining internal unity and national solidarity,” he added.
The Druze-majority province of Sweida has witnessed significant unrest, with growing calls for political reforms. However, community leaders like Hijri continue to advocate for peaceful solutions within the framework of a united Syria.
