SDF thwarts ISIS plot to attack prison in NE Syria – Spokesperson
QAMSHLI, Syria (North Press) – The official spokesperson for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Abjar Dawoud, said on Saturday that SDF forces successfully thwarted an Islamic State (ISIS) plot to attack a prison in Hasakah, northeastern Syria, holding hundreds of the group’s members.
Dawoud told North Press that ISIS had launched 27 attacks in areas held by the SDF since December 2024.
Although he did not provide specific details about the planned operation against the prison, he confirmed that the threat was neutralized and that heightened security measures are now in place to pursue ISIS cells and uncover any further plots in the region.
He also highlighted that ISIS had taken advantage of the defection of former Syrian army personnel, who abandoned their posts and equipment, much of which has now fallen under ISIS control.
Despite ongoing Turkish assaults on the Tishrin Dam and continuous airstrikes in the area that have complicated efforts, the SDF has conducted several operations against ISIS, reaffirming their steadfast commitment to fighting terrorism alongside the Global Coalition forces.
