MANBIJ, Syria (North Press) – A car bomb explosion rocked the center of Manbij, northern Syria, on Saturday afternoon, killing three civilians and injuring several others, according to medical sources.

The blast occurred in a densely populated area near the Safina Roundabout, a busy commercial district in the city. The explosion caused significant damage to nearby shops and vehicles, sending panic among residents.

Casualties and Response

The director of Manbij National Hospital confirmed that three civilians lost their lives, while an unknown number of people sustained injuries. Local emergency teams rushed to the scene, evacuating the wounded to hospitals for treatment.

Security forces cordoned off the area, launching an investigation into the incident. No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, but similar bombings in the past have been attributed to Islamic State (ISIS) sleeper cells or other armed factions operating in northern Syria.

Escalating Security Concerns

Manbij, a strategically significant city controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) with U.S.-led coalition support, has seen sporadic attacks over the years, often targeting civilians and security forces. The latest bombing raises fresh concerns over stability in the region, particularly as tensions remain high between various armed groups.

While authorities have not yet determined the perpetrators, previous attacks in Manbij have been linked to ISIS remnants, which continue to conduct insurgent operations despite losing territorial control. Additionally, Turkish-backed factions and other groups have been accused of destabilizing efforts in the region.

As investigations continue, security measures in Manbij are expected to tighten in an effort to prevent further attacks.
