Jake Sullivan warns of ISIS exploiting instability in Syria

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan voiced on Sunday concerns about the potential resurgence of ISIS amid the ongoing instability in Syria.

Sullivan emphasized that the absence of authority in certain regions creates opportunities for the extremist group to regroup and pose significant threats.

He highlighted the critical role of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) as key partners in the fight against ISIS.

He also expressed concerns that if Turkey escalates its military operations against the SDF forces, the latter might be forced to shift their focus away from counter-terrorism efforts.

The National Security Advisor also pointed out that the SDF is responsible for securing prisons that hold thousands of ISIS fighters.

Sullivan’s remarks follow those of German Special Envoy to Syria Stefan Schneck, who recently cautioned that escalating tensions between the SDF and Turkish-backed SNA factions could have catastrophic consequences for civilians and undermine global counter-terrorism efforts.
