France Calls for SDF Inclusion in Syria’s Political Transition

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – French Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot emphasized the importance of including the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Syria’s transitional government following the fall of the Assad regime.

In his statement, Barrot acknowledged the significant political shifts taking place in Syria, highlighting the critical role the SDF played in combating ISIS and stabilizing northern and eastern Syria.

“We are working to facilitate an agreement between Kurds and Turks in northern Syria,” Barrot stated, stressing the urgency of halting ongoing clashes in Kobane and Manbij. He also reiterated France’s commitment to safeguarding Kurdish rights, recognizing their essential role in the region’s political and security landscape.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have been a key partner in the fight against ISIS, controlling large swaths of northern and eastern Syria. Despite their crucial role in combating terrorism, the SDF faces ongoing threats, particularly from Turkey. 

Following the recent collapse of the Assad regime, the political landscape in Syria is shifting, with various international players seeking to influence the future of the country. 

France has emphasized the importance of including the SDF in Syria’s political transition, calling for an agreement between Kurdish and Turkish factions to ensure stability and protect Kurdish rights in the region.
