Former militant of Iranian-backed militia found dead in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Residents discovered on Thursday the body of a former militant of an Iranian-backed militia in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria.

A local source told North Press that the deceased, identified as Oday al-Mousa, was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head at his residence in the al-Tamou neighborhood of in the town of al-Mayadin.

The city of Deir ez-Zor and its surrounding countryside are currently under the control of factions allied with Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which overthrew Bashar al-Assad’s regime on Dec. 8.

The source added that al-Mousa was a former militant of the Iranian-backed Afghan Liwa Fatemiyoun militia. He reportedly left the militia after the withdrawal of the Syrian government forces and Iranian-backed militias from Deir ez-Zor.
