U.S., Turkey commit to cooperation on stability in Syria
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced on Monday that he held discussions with Turkish Minister of Defense Yasar Guler regarding the ongoing instability in Syria.
The talks focused on its implications for the mission to defeat the Islamic State (ISIS) and the broader security of allies and regional partners.
In a statement shared on the platform X, Austin highlighted that both sides agreed on the critical role of Syrian opposition groups in protecting civilians and adhering to international humanitarian standards.
Austin emphasized the shared commitment of the U.S. and Turkey to counterterrorism efforts, stating that the two nations “continue working together to ensure that the instability in Syria does not threaten our Defeat-ISIS mission or our Allies and partners in the region.”
