CENTCOM targets 75 ISIS camps in central Syria

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Sunday that it targeted 75 targets linked to the Islamic State (ISIS) in central Syria.

In a statement, CENTCOM said, U.S. forces “conducted dozens of precision airstrikes targeting known ISIS camps and operatives in central Syria on Dec. 8.”

The statement detailed that these strikes targeted ISIS leaders, operatives, and camps as part of an ongoing mission to disrupt, degrade, and ultimately defeat ISIS, “in order to prevent the terrorist group from conducting external operations and to ensure that ISIS does not seek to take advantage of the current situation to reconstitute in central Syria.”

CENTCOM confirmed that damage assessments from the strikes are still underway and emphasized that no civilian casualties were reported.

The statement reaffirmed the U.S.’s commitment to cooperating with allies and regional partners to carry out operations aimed at weakening ISIS’s operational capabilities.

“There should be no doubt – we will not allow ISIS to reconstitute and take advantage of the current situation in Syria,” said General Michael Erik Kurilla.

“All organizations in Syria should know that we will hold them accountable if they partner with or support ISIS in any way.”
