War remnants claim one life, injure another in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Two separate incidents involving remnants of war occurred on Wednesday in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, resulting in the death of a young man and the injury of a child.

19-year-old Ayman al-Ahmad was killed in the town of al-Abbas, east of Deir ez-Zor, when an explosive remnant detonated as he attempted to remove it from the entrance of his abandoned home.

According to local sources, al-Ahmad had been living with his family in Latakia and returned to al-Abbas two days prior to clean the house in preparation for their return.

In a separate incident in the town of al-Asharah, 11-year-old Abdul Wahab al-Fattah sustained multiple shrapnel injuries after a mortar shell exploded. The child reportedly placed the shell into a fire, unaware of the imminent danger.
