Asayish capture senior ISIS leader in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) announced on Monday the capture of a senior leader of the Islamic State (ISIS) in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria.

According to a statement released by the Asayish, the capture took place on Nov. 30, as a result of meticulously planned security operations in the town of al-Ozba in the east of Deir ez-Zor.

The Asayish successfully executed a well-coordinated ambush after closely monitoring the movements of an ISIS leader responsible for orchestrating several recent bombings and assassinations targeting civilians in al-Ozba,” the statement read.

The statement further noted that the operation involved a “limited” exchange of fire with the ISIS leader before his eventual apprehension.

This mission, the Asayish emphasized, is part of ongoing efforts to counter the activities of terrorist cells aiming to destabilize secure areas. These cells have been linked to the planting of explosives and carrying out attacks that have claimed civilian lives in recent weeks.
