Government forces launch combing operation in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Syrian government forces launched on Saturday a military operation to clear the eastern desert of Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria, aiming to eliminate Islamic State (ISIS) cells.
A military source said that units from the Divisions 17 and 18, supported by Russian airstrikes, began the operation on Saturday afternoon, targeting areas such as al-Mayadin, al-Quriyah, and Sabikhan in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
According to the source, the operation is set to last five days and will expand to include other areas in the eastern countryside.
This campaign is a direct response to a recent escalation in ISIS attacks against the government forces.
